Responsibilities of specialist physicians, tutors and residents
The second edition of the book written by Francisco Moreno Madrid has been published. Presented on May 22 by the WTO, the book can be read online on computers and mobile devices.
Study on Medical Demography
The 2017 Medical Demographics Study offers a descriptive analysis of the current situation, evolution and European comparison of the medical population in Spain.
In the first part, all possible information is extracted from the files available to the CGCOM (Collegiate Medical Organization – General Council of Official Colleges of Physicians of Spain) with data corresponding to the year 2017.
The historical evolution and current snapshot of the MIR call and the “numerus clausus” for admission to the different medical schools in the country are addressed. Essential information is provided on the national population decline and the unstoppable feminization of the medical profession, and international data is provided to compare the current demographic situation in Spain with other countries in our European environment.

Responsibility of the MIR
The training system for Medical Residents (hereinafter MIR) is currently considered a key element of the recognised prestige and high professional and scientific level of our National Health System. The training of specialists in health sciences in Spain has been recognised for its high quality in the training of specialist physicians and as one of the most prestigious systems with the greatest equity and level of training in the world.
The pages of this work help us to deepen our knowledge of the MIR system, of the current regulatory framework that governs the figure of the resident and his relationship with the Tutor and specifically as the main objective in the area of his responsibility. The document emphasizes the double figure of the MIR, as a “student/apprentice” of a specialty, with teaching and research rights, and as a “qualified physician”, in professional practice, with all his obligations and work responsibilities.
